Le cinéma de 2020 s'est retrouvé dans une impasse étrange et incertaine. Des films comme "The Invisible Man", qui ont eu une brève sortie à grande échelle dans les cinémas avant le verrouillage du coronavirus, ont été envoyés à une vidéo coûteuse à la demande pour que tous puissent en profiter dans le confort en quarantaine de leur salon; et « Trolls World Tour » a eu une sortie réussie entièrement via un achat à domicile.
Le sort de l'exposition de films est une énigme pour le moment, et la capacité ou non d'un film à survivre à une sortie uniquement en streaming peut dépendre du fait qu'il s'agisse d'un blockbuster ou d'un film indépendant.
